Indian clubs have been used for thousands of years for coordination, mobility, and strength endurance. Originally used by Indian and Persian warriors, the clubs were eventually introduced to Europe and the United States in the 1800’s. I have found that the Indian clubs have been one of the best tools I have ever used to better the shoulder integrity and shoulder mobility of my students as well as for myself. The Indian clubs are a must for all strength athletes and kettlebell lifters, martial artists, golfers, tennis players, baseball players, swimmers, volleyball players or anyone who simply wants to prevent shoulder injuries.
The workshop is two hours in length and consists of an introduction of the Indian clubs, instruction of each movement, and then a timed set of all the drills together. Below is an example of how the course will unfold:
Some of the Indian Club drills you will be learning are as follows:
- Folding Arc
- Rolling Wrist
- Chest Opener
- Falling Arc (frontal)
- Falling Arc (sagital)
- Falling Arc w full circle (frontal)
- Falling Arc w full circle (sagital)
- Falling Circles (inside)
- Falling Circles (outside)
- Spinning Blades
- Rotating Guard (outside)
- Rotating Guard (inside)
- Windshield Wipers (left/right)
- One Arm Figure 8's (forward)
- One Arm Figure 8's (backward)
- Double Figure 8"s
(Note: These are not official names for the Indian Club movements, they are just what I have chosen to call them as I teach so it's easier for the students to remember. Some of the movements I will be teaching are traditional and some I have created myself. Most traditional Indian Club movements do not have names.
